Chapter 49-50

Here is the first of 6 lists in the bible of the ’12 Tribes of Israel’. And every list is different. Check the SAB for a chart if you’re curious.

I spent some time reading about the 12 tribes of Israel and lineage of Jesus. Apparently Genesis 49:10 is regarded by many as Messianic prophesy, although Jesus is not mentioned in it. However ‘Shiloh’, translated from Hebrew, means roughly ‘messenger’. That, along with the reference to the scepter, lead some Christians to believe this means Jesus. But that would be an assumption, wouldn’t it? Shiloh could be anyone – like Mohammad, for instance, which is what some Muslims believe.

Other than these bits of trivia, the last couple of chapters are boring. And we’re finished with Genesis! It’s the 4th longest book of the bible, at around 38,000 words. On to Exodus.
