Chapters 28 and 29
These should be a snoozefest, since they’re pretty much just a copy and paste of all the sacrifices from Leviticus. But a couple of features struck me – the horrendous waste of food and destruction of animals in a climate of chronic famine (199 animals in 8 days at Sukkot alone); and god’s obsession with how he loves the smell of burning fat (the SAB counts 11 mentions of this in this 2 chapters alone). Also, in 28:14 god wants wine – and lots of it. Funny how so many churches condemn alcohol – the bible doesn’t seem particularly opposed.
Question – are there any modern-day Jewish sects or groups who still do all this ritual sacrifice using this number of animals????
This must have been stuck in here just to see who’s still awake and still reading. The comments will write themselves, I don’t have to say anything. Just read it. Wow.
