Child Evangelism Fellowship – Coming to a school near you? Or already there?

October 5 @ 5:30 pm - 8:30 pm

We welcome guest speaker Nathan Prokopowich, a member of the Eastman Humanist Community who successfully fought to remove the Child Evangelism Fellowship (CEF) from schools in his local division. HAAM exec member Tony Governo engaged in a similar battle a couple of years ago in the Winnipeg School Division.

CEF is a worldwide organization dedicated to proselytizing to children in public schools. Many children’s advocates would argue that targeting children for religious conversion is immoral. By contrast, CEF publicly proclaims that it is their God-given mission. In their own words: “CEF is a an evangelical, Bible-centred mission whose purpose is to evangelize boys and girls with the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ and to establish (disciple) them in the Word of God and in the local church for Christian living.”

CEF operates Good News Clubs and Discovery Time programs for elementary school students (their target age is 5-12). Discovery Time is specifically intended to insinuate Christianity into public schools. The Good News Club curriculum is filled with over 5,000 references to sin and thousands more to obedience, punishment, and hell. It stresses Old Testament narratives of a retributive God who punishes sin, warns children that they will suffer an eternity in hell if they refuse to believe, and stresses complete obedience as the supreme value. The Good News Club tells children as young as preschool age that they have “dark” and “sinful” hearts, were born that way, and “deserve to die” and “go to hell.” More information about CEF’s dark and damaging message can be read in these warnings from a former believer who blogs as Intrinsic Dignity.

So you haven’t heard of the CEF? It’s active in Manitoba with an office right here in Winnipeg, offering its “services” to any school it can get into using what many would consider deceptive tactics. Stopping this harmful organization can be as simple as informing the school board about exactly what CEF teaches. So please join us for what will be an insightful and informative meeting.
